Paintball Fields

Great Paintball Fields

When playing paintball, you’ll quickly find that paintball fields are all different. Paintball’s sub-version speedball is played on a small, urban-looking field with tires and wood crates instead of trees and shrubbery; more traditional paintball is played on acres of land, usually at paintball retreats, but often on someone’s farm.

There are a few things you should look for in any paintball field, but your choice of fields largely depends on your skill level and the kind of paintball experience you’re seeking.

A Paintball Retreat

One of the largest sorts of paintball fields are paintball retreats, large tracts of land dedicated to the sport of paintball. Ideally, any paths should be fairly overgrown and rustic rather than tame and civilized. Your paintball experience should give you the most excitement possible, and part of the excitement is contending with nature as well as with your friends.

Of course, you can always use someone’s farm, but that may not be as ideal. For one thing, a farm is not necessarily dedicated to paintball; shooting a farm animal with a paintball is not very nice, and stepping in things the farm animal leaves behind is even less nice. Also, the paintball field terrain is not perfectly suited to paintball unless someone has gone over it and ensured that any real hazards (old wells, for instance) have been eradicated. With someone’s farm, though, you have the option of the exciting four-wheeler version of paintball. Shooting paintballs in hit-and-run action brings a whole new level to the game.

Really good paintball fields will provide you with varied terrain that’s free from real hazards like pits or snakes. They will be rustic enough to provide great cover when you’re in combat, but not so rustic you’re likely to get hurt or lost. You’ll also have set boundaries within which to play so that you don’t run afoul of other groups of paintballers.

You should choose your paintball field with the limitations of your friends in mind. If you have one player who has a heart condition, paintball fields that require lots of running around should probably be avoided in favor of the ones that allow him to climb a tree and snipe. If you have teams that are relatively out of shape, choose flat terrain; if you want something more extreme, choose something hilly, even with cliffs.

Remember Paintball Rentals

Another good thing about using professional paintball fields is that they provide paintball rentals to those who don’t have equipment yet. The prices may be high, but your beginners will be able to play with equipment as good as the ones who’ve been playing for a while, and if anything jams, breaks, or gets fouled, you’ll have the option of stopping by and renting a temporary replacement.

Paintball fields are one of your most important considerations when playing paintball. Fields often make or break the game. Choose carefully, with consideration of your teammates, and you’re certain to have a great time.
