Paintball Games: Making It Interesting

Tired of the same old paintball games of capture-the-flag, free-for-all, and sniper hunt? Reading up on other types of paintball games will help you inject new fun into your paintballing life. Different games require different paintball tactics, and some even require a few special new items.

Scenario Paintball Games: New Paintball Strategy

Scenario games can be pretty similar to standard paintball games, but they feel very different. A scenario game provides you, the player, with a role to play (medic, sergeant, butterbars lieutenant, scout, or terrorist) and it’s up to you to take that role and run with it.

Scenario paintball games are often put together by large paintball organizations, the owners of a field, or commercial companies. That’s because designing the scenario is a lot of work, and because you score the paintball game very differently. With a scenario, you focus more on who you’re playing and the goals of the game than you do on straight-forward paintball tactics.

For instance, in one scenario game you may find yourself playing a SWAT team trying to take down a group of terrorists who have taken hostages. Now you can’t just shoot blindly into the enemy area, figuring you can hit whoever; instead, you must carefully avoid shooting hostages while taking out the enemy real darn tootin’ fast so they can’t shoot the hostages. Instead of scoring you on whether you capture the enemy base or shoot all the enemies, your score might be based on how many hostages survive – and the terrorist team might find their score based on how many of your team they kill. You might also find buried paint land mines, paint-bombs, and paintball grenades used frequently in a scenario game.

Scenario paintball games can last entire weekends, and they’re fun! They are, however, a lot of work. You shouldn’t put your own together until you’ve played in one of the large commercial games so you’ll have a practical idea of what you need to do.

Speedball: New Paintball Tactics

But the scenario thing might not be your cup of tea. Instead of thinking about your paintball games, you want action. In that case, consider speedball paintball games. Instead of using lots of natural cover back in the woods, speedball paintball games are played on small fields with little natural cover. And you don’t have traditional bunkers made of old logs and stands of brush – instead, you have man-made objects like wooden pallets, piles of tires, old corrugated metal, etc. Imagine paintball transported from the country to the worst parts of New York in Escape from New York, and you have the idea.

One of the great advantages of speedball is that it allows for spectators, so you can drag your wife along for the fun (hey, she takes you shoe shopping!) And you might even get her to play along, once she finds out how much fun it is. It’s also a great way to introduce your children to the fun of paintball games. And because you play on a small field, it’s easier to set up paintball games for speedball than for most other versions of paintball.
